Smart Cities Week D.C. highlights collaboration as a key to smart city success

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 4th annual Smart Cities Week Conference and Exhibition return to Washington, D.C. Oct. 2-4, 2018, focusing on collaboration as the cornerstone of a smart city.

Hosted by the Smart Cities Council, Smart Cities Week D.C. brings together hundreds of inspiring thinkers, civic leaders, and technologists to discuss urgent urban challenges and how cities around the world are solving them. In many cases, innovative collaborations play a role.

“Collaboration is a key to success in so many sectors today — and cities, counties and other jurisdictions are increasingly realizing the benefits too. They are partnering with their local utilities, universities, the private sector and each other,” notes Council Chairman Jesse Berst. “Our goal at this fall’s conference is to showcase collaboration as a way for jurisdictions to more efficiently and affordably fast-track smart city transformations.”

Upwards of 1,500 attendees from around the world are expected at the October event, which will feature a who’s who of the smart city thought leaders and subject matter experts from the public and private sector.

Stimulating keynote addresses, workshops, panel sessions and intimate roundtable discussions will align with five conference tracks:

  • Transportation
  • Financing
  • Capacity Development
  • Data-Driven Decision Making
  • Smart Infrastructure

Conference participants will also have opportunities to hear insights and updates from representatives of the Council’s 2018 Readiness Challenge Grant winning cities.

In the Exhibition Hall, leading smart city vendors will display smart technologies designed to make cities more livable, workable and sustainable. Also in the hall, startups will showcase their smart city solutions in the popular Innovation Alley competition.

Produced in partnership with MCI, Smart Cities Week D.C. will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center Oct. 2-4, 2018. To register or learn more, visit www.smartcitiesweek.com/2018-washington/.

The D.C. event is one of three Smart Cities Week conferences the Council will host this year. In May, Smart Cities Week Silicon Valley returned to Santa Clara, CA for the second year. The first-ever Smart Cities Week Australia, organized by the Council’s Australia/New Zealand chapter, will debut in Sydney Oct. 29-31, 2018.
